Info I have: Joshua F. Justice, b 1839/40 d 1900 Hendersonville, NC

fought in the Civil War [have seen records]

is on the census, says born in NC

First wife died in childbirth, one son died in childhood, second son is my gr gr grandfather  William [confirmed]

was a postmaster after the Civil War [confirmed]

My brother states that he was also a minister of a church but I can't find records of this. He also insists that Joshua was born in NC and that is also what the Census states..

I found records of a Joshua born in West Virginia in that year/ father Edmond. That is the ONLY record of a Joshua Justice.

www.Findagrave.com shows nothing, though I found where his 2nd wife is buried.

Would like to go further back.

United States Census, 1880," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MCX4-DKL : accessed 18 February 2016), Joshua F Justice, Upper Laurel, Madison, North Carolina, United States; citing enumeration district ED 131, sheet 129A, NARA microfilm publication T9 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.), roll 0971; FHL microfilm 1,254,971.

Is this the right family?

Yes, that is the right family. I just can't locate any more info on him, like who his parents were, etc. The ONLY Joshua Justice I could find is from W. Virginia and my brother insists that [our] Joshua was born in Henderson, NC

I found him on the census, civil war records, postal records, but cannot find where he was buried, even though I found where his [2nd] wife was buried. His first wife was Francis [died in childbirth] and cannot find any other info on her either.

I found Nancy E. [Jervis] Justice and my gr gr grandfather William S. on numerous sources, including the census.

I want to trace this lineage. I have numerous other branches on both my mother and father's side......except for this one!
What information do you find that says West Virginia?

To me, it seems this is the same family.

maybe Francis is William's mother?
Yes, I am fairly sure that Francis is William's mother. She died while giving birth to his younger brother James.  Joshua then married Nancy Jervis. I have found the family on numerous census lists, all post 1850.

I am looking for Joshua's parents and his line before that. I have  everything else starting at him but nothing before.

I have only found one Joshua Justice, listing his father as Edmund and a brother Raleigh. That is the West Virginia Census. I ran across this when searching a Justice line in the Kentucky/West Virginia area.

My brother insists that is not the correct Joshua, that he was born and lived in Henderson County, North Carolina. Of course, we have disagree on other things and it turned out I was right 90% of the time, lol. But I still need to confirm my research somehow.
