My gg grandfather, William Clay Bell, was born in Washington Co., PA on January 22, 1812. William married in Pittsburgh.

His father, Walter Bell, was born in Northern Ireland, Monaghan County, on July 24, 1775.

Walter Bell's father, William Bell was born in Monaghan County, Ireland in 1747. William Bell and his wife, Ann Williams relocated to Mercer County, PA wth their children in 1792.

Do you think this might connect with your Northern Ireland Bells who moved to Western PA?

I believe I also have Bell ancestors in Pennsylvania, probably of Scots ancestry, probably emigrated from Northern Ireland. My ancestor Samuel Bell Stuart was born in Pennsylvania in 1802 and resided in Berks County (other end of the state from Washington County). Family tradition says he was of Scots ancestry. I assume that Bell was his mother's maiden name or another family name in his fairly recent ancestry. I'd be interested in hearing about what you learn.

PS - I've found that online research for this time period in Pennsylvania is not easy.
From the time of the 1790 US Census through to the 1810 US Census, Berks County included most of what became Schuylkill County by 1820.

"Map Guide to the U.S. Federal Censuses 1790-1920"  By William Thornapple and William Dollarhide pages 289-292.
Do you have any Bells with my family names?   James Bell  Isabelle Cairns Bell,  Henry Bell, Wm Bell  ?  Dates would  be 1825 - 1840 in Washington PA then on to Ohio  Thanks  Charlene
William Barnet Bell, was born Feb 11, 1847. I do not have his state, county or city of birth, but he married Agnes Sharp and later resided in Colorado, no children. He was the son of William Clay Bell, born Jan 22, 1812 in Washington, Co., PA.

William C Bell was born Feb 15, 1882.  William C. Bell was born in Youngstown, OH and died Nov 16, 1887 in childhood. He was the first born of three sisters and one brother, Dwight R. Bell, my grandfather.

You may want to check out the following reference because it has information about some of the Bells in Northern Ireland who married into the Williams family line. It was William Bell born 1847 who married Ann Williams in Monaghan County, Ireland.

It states that the Bells came from the south of England to Northern Ireland but are undoubtedly Scotch. They settled in Tyrone, Armagh and Monaghan Ireland, and some of this name are still to be found in Newry.

Inasmuch as the book was published in 1897 in Chicago, "to this day" would have been over 100 years ago.
I do not see enough data to k]link us.  My Bells left Belfast ? 190s and 1810 to 1825   If your Bells are Catholic not Presby then we are definitely not related.  Do your Bells go to Ohio  and/or Indiana ?

William Clay Bell, who was born in Washington Co., PA in 1812 and his wife were Presbyterians.
