Kaye/Kay/Key (& variants) One-Name Study

Question

Looking for Kaye/Kay/Key (& variant) surname researchers, in the US and abroad, to participate in this newly created one-name study.

My own primary research is on the William Worthington Kaye line (1822-1864).  He immigrated in 1848 from Huddersfield, West Riding, Yorkshire, England, lived in Philadelphia and worked as a gunsmith.  In 1864 he became a Union soldier and fought in the Civil War, but died in the Battle of Cold Harbor, VA, on June 3, 1864.

My line were living on Flockton Moor about 5 miles south east of WW Kaye's birthplace however I am not aware of any family connection. The records are very poor prior to 1800 and Kaye/Kay were very plentiful in that area.

My ancestor was William Kaye 1806-1869 and best guess is his father was also William.

I have recently started researching Sarah Kaye of Almonbury parish who married Joshua Thorp of Huddersfield at Almondbury on 2 July 1798 as I think this couple may be on the other side of one of my brick walls. Have you come across them in your research? I am struggling a little to pin down Sarah as it is such a common name.

I have collected Key information for 20 years. My closest Key Ancestor is Rebecca Key daughte of Thomas T Key b. 1805, NC, son or William Key b. @1776 d. 1832 TN, son of Thomas Key b. @1750 VA d. 11816 NC, Son of MArtin Key II, b.@1700 Louisa Co VA died May 1757 VA, son of Martin Key d. 1757 son of John Key b@1696 son of Martin Key.

My Key file is about 6 inches thick with information on every Key I could find. Documents include, Key and Allied Families, Keys of Colonial VA,Descendency Chart Louisa Co Keys, The Louisa county Key Orphans, Keys of Key West, Albermarle Co VA, and many documents from cort houses etc.

For everyone else here is a bit of my Kaye ancestry,

Descendant of James and Hannah Halroyd Kaye from Kirkburton, Yorkshire, England. Removed to Ontario Canada in 1842. James married a second time to Mary Unknown (to me at the moment).

James is believed to be the son of George and Elizabeth Kaye from perhaps Greenside?, Yorkshire, England. He was born abt 1784.

[[Kaye-581| Barbara Jane Kaye Ogilvie]] is my great grandmother and she is the granddaughter of James and Hannah through their son and daughter in law, Byron and Ellen Smith Kaye of Woodstock, Oxford, Ontario, Canada.

I am not a "true" Key (my surname comes from my mother's first husband, who is not my father and was in fact divorced from my mother 10 years before I was born). However, I am with you in spirit!
