My gggrandfather was james Isaac Trumbull born 1833 in St. Catharines, Lincoln County, Ontario.  Son of James Abner Trumbull and Elizabeth.  Dates would fit for your Joseph to be a brother.  They were of Irish origin and I have always assumed that they probably came from New York state but have nothing to verify that.

Thanks, Sandra. This sounds like a good lead to me. Anything else on James Abner Trumbull or Elizabeth, like marriage or their offspring's birth or christening records. And why do you think they came from (or went to) New York? Also anything else you have on Isaac might help me figure out if he's my Joseph's brother. Like where and when Isaac came into the states. My info on Joseph indicates he came here with his family from Canada at a young age. And the voter rolls note that he claimed "citizenship through his father." Which is intriguing but confounding!
