Looking for The Shirburn Oxfordshire Loveday`s Prior to William Born 1889 Married Amy Louise Poulton 1918

i am a newbie i am looking for the descendents of my Mothers Family Name (Loveday) She Is Still Living Her Father was William Loveday Born 1889 Oxfordshire (possibly) Shirburn and Married Amy Louise Poulton Born Guildford Surrey lived Penge London in 1918 william and sarah`s children where Marion R Loveday (Living) Joan (Deceased) Doreen (Deceased) Bill/William( Deceased) Denis (deceased) Frank (Living) i know Williams father was called John there is a family connection going back to norfolk possibly frettenham stayed up till 4am last night so any help on this topic would be greatfully recieved Best Regards Mark

I think we are in danger of getting mixed up without more info.

The only William loveday born around 1889 in Oxfordshire is son of Benjamin L. and Elizabeth Hatton (1911 census). He was born Aston Rowant.

The 1861 census has a william loveday born 1841 to John Loveday and Harriet - they are in London, but John's birthplace was in Snetterton, Norfolk.

There are Johns in Shirburn but nothing matches your date of 1889.

Hi Martin thankyou for the response to clarify what i have so far.  My Mother (Living) born 1934 Croydon Surrey married Croydon 1956 to Mr Andrews My Father (deceased) Her Dad Was William Loveday born 1889 Shirburn oxfordshire married in croydon surrey1918 to Amy Louise Poulton born guildford 02-04-1896 williams dad was John Loveday born 1866 shirburn @ 25 he was a carpenter on the shirburn castle estate he married sarah (No Surname) who was born 1867 they married in 1887 i hope this clarifies the situation there is a connection to norfolk maybe fretterton but getting johns father and mother and other children is proving difficult for me thanks for your help best regards Mark

Hi Mark, I'm finding this one interesting. If you are right about William's DoB then he wasn'r registered. The son of Benjamin in 1911 is almost certainly a wrong date and he was actually born in 1882/3.

I'll have another look at John.

OK, next answer.

Following up John Thomas Loveday - born 1865/6. 1891 not married. Married Sarah Jane Ashby in Headingtony RD 1893. Son Willie born 1895. Resident in Shirburn until 1911 at least. John is a carpenter.

John's parents David Loveday born c. 1830 and Eliza White? also born around 1830. Married 1853 in Henley RD. David was a shepherd.

David's parents John Loveday and Elizabeth both born in the 1786-1791 slot. (from 1841 census).

I'll have another go tomorrow, but you are going to have to accept that some of your facts are not quite right.

just an update where i am now...great great grandad david loveday dob 1829 shirburn occ shepheard he married eliza her dob 1832 their children where william dob 1858 james 1864 john 1866 (this one traces to be a carpenter at shirburn castle)henry 1869 and ann 1871..............so its looking like my grandfather william`s father was john Dob 1866 and his grandfather was david dob 1829 hope this makes sense above info from 1881 census

I've done some more checking. As I said before, John the carpenter did not marrry until 1893. Both 1901 and 1911 censuses have his son as Willie born 1895/6.

Willie Loveday is registered in Henley RD 3rd quarter of 1895.

He died in 1980 registered Croydon. Amy died in 1976 in Oxford.

It is theoretically possible that John had another son, William, earlier in 1889, but the birth is not registered.

The questions are - do you have a death date and place for your grandfather? What is your evidence for his birth in 1889?

If you are absolutely certain about the William /Amy marriage, the first step woyld be to get their marriage certifciate and check their ages and fathers and mothers.

John Loveday christened 6 jun 1787 Aston Rowant to John and Mary.

I haven't ben able to find marriages to either Mary or Elizabeth.

Your next stop is the Aston Rowant parish registers. Don't know where they are held but it should be easy to find out.
