Do you have any information on a Godfrey Baker who was killed in 1789 by Indians in Arkville, New York?

I am trying to locate Godfrey Baker's parents.  In the Chronicles of the Family Baker, Empraim Baker, Godfrey's son, was listed as a relative.  However, I have not been able to connect Godfrey to the Thomas Baker family.  The Bakers I am tracing lived in Arkville, Delaware, New York.  At one time the county was Ulster.

 

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

You might want to check at findagrave where it gives an estimate of his birth year. If you click on Ephriam Baker, there are more details. One of the birth years must be off as Godfrey would not have been old enough to be a father of Ephriam as the birth years are only 10 years apart.

According to Wikipedia: Arkville is a hamlet of the Town of Middletown, New York, United States.

That "Town of" in NY is the equivalent of township in many other states.

You might try contacting the Town Government.  There's a good chance they have a Town Historian who can help you out.

There are some great historical records for the area available to the public. You may need to go in person as I doubt it's digitalized, but they may recognize names as Arkville is a very small place.

Either contact the Fairview Library in Arkville (http://fairviewlibrary.org/) or the Morton Library in Pine Hill (pinehilllibrary.org). Can't remember which but they have records going back many years.

Excellent suggestion!  Libraries are a resource we sometimes forget about - but we shouldn't!

My paternal grandmother was born and raised in a mostly rural part of Indiana.  The local "metropolis," Marion, IN, pop. 29,948 (2010) has a library that was a huge help with her family.

Taking a quick look at the two library sites you give, I found a History-Genealogy link on the Pine Hill site.  That leads to an amazing array of resource in the Ulster county library system (likely available at both libraries).
