William Sandy - Not husband of Catherine Beck and died in Va after 1840

The William Sandy who was the son of William & Dinah Wood Sandy was still alive by 1840 and still resided in Rockingham, Va. as proved by various records. Also, he was the husband of Abigail Warren but not the husband of Catherine Beck. Records and biographies show Catherine was the wife of William Henry Sandy of North Carolina. Biographers of William Henry state his father was the William Sandy of Licking Creek.  William & Dinah lived in the Shenandoah Co area. These are 2 different areas of the state. Tax records between 1789-1800 show 2 different William/Dinah Sandy families living in Va during the same time period. Thank you for the other corrections.

You are absolutely correct. William Sandy, married to Catherine Beck, never resided in Virginia, and was the son of a Jared (or Gerard, etc.) Sandy. William is mentioned in Jared's 1794 will. It appears to be likely that Jared Sandy was born in Virginia, and was probably a brother to William Sandy, husband of Dinah Wood.

These different William Sandys are frequently conflated, but were very clearly several different people.
