Help in finding ancestor... George Washington Ward

0 votes

I am looking for my gg grandfather. SOOO frustrating to be stuck so early sad

George Washington Ward (b 1850?) died (1899-1900?)

Yancey Belle Snider (b 9-4-1860) on 12-31-1879

Jesse Merrione 3/8/1879, Arthur J     9/25/1883, Bessie Irene 2/8/1888, Abigale 6/13/1890, Roy Webster 12/25/1898

Listed on

1880 Census Dent County Salem Spring Creek - he was living with Benjamin Snider, shows he was an iron mine worker, Age 30, Birth IA

1900 Census unable to locate him and Belle Ward is listed as a widow. In 1910 Belle is remarried and they are in St Louis and no longer around Salem.

Have not been able to find any info at any cemetaries or anything. Someone has actually gone to Salem and looked through the cemetaries and records. I know there is a divorce decree where him and Yancey got divorced but their last child was born a couple of years later. One thing funny... in looking at the censuses, when I look at the childrens father place of birth 1880 shows IA, 1900 shows IN, 1910 shows MO....

There are a few of us who have been working on this one for over 10 years now, ANY and ALL ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

Leslie, would be happy to do some searching for you later today. Do you have a Wikitree profile for him? It helps to display all that you have and whether the data you have is reliable or not. Would be happy to help you set up a page for him if not.
At this time I have nothing on WikiTree, I literally got my invitation and joined minutes before I posted this ?, I probably won't get around to updating/building my tree for a few days but any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Have you checked Wikitree? Full name search, top left on wikitree yields:

Yes, from what I am able to tell, none of them appear to be him.
"Missouri, Marriages, 1750-1920," George Washington Ward, 1879
Marriage Date:     31 Dec 1879
Marriage Place:     Dent,Missouri

Some of my relatives are from Dent, Missouri, have book reference, will check it latter and can help set up a page for him, lots of data to come.
Awesome, THANK YOU!!
Leslie, Spent most of the afternoon searching this line and have struck out. The 1880 census and the marriage record are the only records of note. The only other record showing birth in Iowa, was for George "N" Ward born 1850. Checked the actual text and it was an "N" not W and was not able to trace this family. The Civil War may have disrupted record searches for the time period we need to search.
Mike, you rock.
Thanks for trying... guess the line stops there.

Have you seen Google Search results for your George Washington Ward? He is on top of the list.  If you have not created a page for him yet, I would be happy to start one. All available info could be posted with notes on reliability. It would make it easier for me and any  one else wanting to help. Wikitree profiles do show up in google searches and all info children etc can lead to more new information.
