All languages are encouraged.  Here are the different languages used in WikiTree which have been identified:

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Different_Languages_Used_for_Profiles

Please add to this list if you find other languages.

Thanks and sincerely,

Bonjour Létourneau,

Yes there are other language options. When you add information to WikiTree you can most certainly add your information in your native language. It's also good to provide and English translation if you can do this. If not, finding a bi-lingual member to help with a translation works. Here is the link to the Language Volunteers Project.

Also if you need to have something translated you can post it here in G2G and someone will jump in to help.

As for presenting WikiTree as a whole in different languages? We do have a project which is working to coordinate this this effort. Global Community Outreach. "Our mandate is to recognize cultural differences and integrate them into the existing structure of WikiTree, and to encourage members to share information relevant to their cultural heritage and background. We will discuss strategies for reaching out to genealogists around the world, and ways for volunteers outside the United States to become more active in our global community."

So, WikiTree, being volunteer driven, would love to have members step up to help facilitate this moving forward. YAY WIkiTree! Bonne WikiTree! Mucho Gusto WikiTree! Zer Gut WikiTree!...

As for presenting WikiTree as a whole in different languages, the Dutch Roots Project and now if I'm correct the Sweden Project is planning on starting one as well ,so some of the so called ''Roots'' projects are already working on Language Portals , a very enthusiastic group of members from the Dutch Roots Project for example is already working very hard on the Nederlands Portaal .

When it's finished all Dutch (reading) Wikitree members can learn and read all about Wikitree in their own language. We are translating almost everything in Dutch to make sure all members that understand, speak and or can read Dutch have a place where all is explained.

We started this as a sub project of the Dutch Roots Project, but these Portals of course also fall under the Global Community Outreach , Language Volunteers, and under the Language Project  where already different Portals (we of course hope more will follow ! :) ) can be added see: Language Portals There you also will find Different Languages used for profiles .

So we hope Wikitree in time will have Portals for members from all different countries, that would be really awesome and make it more easy for members from all over the world to join :)

What do folks think about encouraging use of the language userboxes at http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:Languages

For example, by adding this to the top of my profile, I'm included in categories of native English speakers and intermediate Spanish and French speakers. By tracking ourselves in these categories, we'd get an idea of which languages are spoken by WikiTreers.

{{Languages | en | es-2 | fr-2 }}

At http://dnaandfamilytreeresearch.blogspot.ca/ on the right side, there is a Translate / Select Language option.

If all WikiTree pages had this then it might help those users who did not speak English.

I know it is not perfect but it might be an easy start.

How about one to help those that speak only English?

We are going to work on a Dutch Portal for English speaking.reading members as well, so if you have or know something you would love to have added there , so for example Dutch transcripts or what's used most in records , a member asked if we could add a list of all months translated (so the months as they appear in the old records) . Just put some wishes or ideas here and we can add it to the Dutch Portal ;)

I am greatly impressed by the work of the Dutch Roots Project
Thanks Michael and we of course would love to see a  Portale Italiano for the Italian members as well some day, great you started the Italian Roots Project !
