Hugh --

Arborists don't have any special powers to put merges through. I suggest re-proposing the merge with a note as to why you believe the merge should be completed.

Personally, I think it's always best to try and have a conversation with any involved profile managers to talk about why they are reluctant to put a merge through. Some people are not aware that discrepancies can be noted in the biography and that we don't need to have two copies of a profile in order to document differences.

If you are having difficulty working with the profile manager (or any other member, for that matter), the Problems with Members procedure is always available to you.

I rejected a proposed merge out of confusion (yes, I'm frequently confused), but when I looked at it again, understood what was going on. But the other person had already contacted a 'personage' and they did the merge. My nose was a little out of joint because a quick email to explain again would have cleared things up easily. I don't think you should go to a mentor until you've tried a friendly email.
Thank you, Cari.  I am also frequently confused. :-)

It's easy to get impatient with the process.  Sometimes I have my head full to the brim, and that one delay can seem overwhelming.

That's when I have to breathe, and remember we're all doing the best we can.  Thank you for the reminder!

In short-- No. I would remove the rejection, & re propose a merge, with a very strong message in the comment box as to why the merge should be completed.

Anybody can force a merge if they join the TL of both profiles.
