Advice on including a person as an underage ww1 participant? Dorothy Lawrence 1896 England

+5 votes

Hi I am helping with the [ Underage WW1 Participants project] and I came across this woman, Dorothy Lawrence.

From what I can gather in 1914 (when she was about 18) she was in France trying to get work as a War correspondent, this didn't work so in 1915 (now 19) she dressed as a man and fought on the somme for two weeks before giving herself up.

I'm looking for advice, and interest in the project : ), if you would classify her as fitting in the project.

I am of two minds she was about 19, over the legal age, when she went to fight, but she was involved as a correspondent/trying to be a correspondent in France when she was 18, under the legal age. Either way I think she should be recognised somewhere.

I would. Include a combatant but not as an under-age would-be correspondent
