Hi

Myself and my partner of over 20 years (unmarried) both have profiles.

Is there any way i can link these so that they will show connected on the tree??

Regards

Hi Chris,

You can provide an explanation and link to each profile on the other in the biography section.  Only genealogical connections are currently shown on the tree view.  If you have children together or share common ancestors you will be connected also.

Have a nice day :)

I really think there must be something done about this. I too have a partner of 20 years. I am also a single adoptive parent. If I did my genealogy proper- neither of them would be on my tree.  Many don't know my son is adopted (it's not a secret) and some think I am married. The two most important people in my life are not blood relatives. But others in my family who have children who are not blood related, but because they are on the birth certificate are or have spouses they married but never lived are.

On my tree (not wikitree) I say that this is a FAMILY tree and family may not be legal or blood related or may be the offspring of another family member raised by another family member.

In genealogy it is the sharing of DNA. When two people have a child together, that child shares DNA with the parents. My mother was adopted when she was young, but then the adopted mother died and she went back to her birth mother. I like Keith's suggestion above about providing an explanation in the biography section for any outliers to the 'typical' family.
No, it is the sharing of perceived DNA. Few genealogical relationships are proven by DNA. And some are only by marriage. I have a family member of a generation past who was raised by two people she always thought were her birth parents - she only found out they were not her parents after their deaths when she acquired a genetic disease she could not have gotten from either of them.  Ho many people of generations earlier never found out their parents were not their parents or siblings only half?
