Hi Michael,

Do you have any other information for people to work with? Any names of the family? There was a ton of migration in the 1870's (not specifically immigration) with lots of existing families spreading into northern areas of the province (Algoma district), and also into Western Canada and others starting to cram into the rapidly industrializing cities. Despite all this growth, the economic situation was also driving many people (both new arrivals and settled families) into the United States so many that came to Canada did not stay.

Just to give you an idea, there are about 340 persons with the surname Quigley indexed as being enumerated in Ontario in the 1881 Census of Canada (not factoring for enumerator errors or indexing errors) - and this assumes the people you are interested in stayed in Ontario until that date. The 340 persons are spread across 59 different townships, in 39 census districts, not counting the 11 wards of the 4 cities where there are Quiqley famiilies
