I'm looking to trace my family from Lancashire

My mother and father are from Blackburn in Lancashire and immigrated to South Africa in 1967. Their names are Hilda Teasdale (nee Parkinson) born 1940 and Leonard Teasdale born 1939.

They never spoke about our family and I am wanting to research my roots.

Many thanks

Hi Kim

If you are in Britain, local libraries have free resources available including the paid websites eg Ancestry.   This will help you build the tree for free.  I've used the website http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/index.html and excellent, simple, free and quite accurate in their transcripts of records.

familysearch.org - a little awkward when you first start using it but once you get used to it a font of information at your fingertips without the charges.

In addition to FreeBMD there is also

http://www.freereg.org.uk/ which has many, though far from all, church records.

But, first step is, do you/they have their marriage certificate and birth certificates? These will give you the best start.

Leonard Teasdale's birth was registered in Blackburn in 1939 (Blackburn 8e/610 q December 1939) with mother's maiden name Haworth. Between 1925 &1939 only one marriage of Teasdale/Haworth is registered, that of Harold V Teasdale & Agnes Haworth  in 1934 (Blackburn 8e/729 q June 1934).

Likewise Hilda Parkinson's birth was registered in Blackburn in 1940 (Blackburn 8e/597 q September 1940) with mother's maiden name Errington. Between 1925 &1940 only one marriage of Parkinson/Errington is registered, that of Jack Parkinson & Hilda Parkinson  in 1940 (Blackburn 8e/883 q March 1940).
