Was Darby Field Married to Agnes Roberts?

+7 votes
While researching the biography of Agnes Roberts-8014, I can find no evidence that she was married to Darby Field-445. His wife was named Agnes, according to the "Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire" (page 232), but not necessarily Agnes Roberts. Is there some source I do not know about, or should the marriage be removed?

It does list "sources" and suggests the marriage took place in England

This source is interesting in that it might be referencing parents .. as well as the marriage ..

Depends on the sources .. C'est Bon .. JSGB

This looks like a classic case of one family tree quoting another with no solid source backing them up. I think that the best that can be said about Agnes is that her surname is Unknown (possibly Roberts) and that she may have married a man named William Williams after Darby died.

Darby himself was an interesting man. Imagine what it was like climbing Mt. Washington in the 1600's? They say he was insane in his later years, but climbing Mt. Washington may have been the first sign of insanity. Also, William Bradford says he was Irish, but the family trees say he was born in England
Good Point .. and "classic" .

I like this biography source which includes details on his Mt. Washington climb.

I have found another source for the marriage between Darby and Agnes, but again no surname for Agnes is given. This source also supports the remarriage of Agnes to William Williams:

"It appears that William Williams had married the widow of Darby Field, whose name was Agnes, as a deed shows."

Later in this volume it states:

"A William Williams married, in Taunton, Eng., 27 Aug. 1615,
Thamzyn Hill, and a man of the same name married at the same
place, 4 Feb. 1628, Agnes Newton. This may be the William
Williams who came with Thomas Wiggin to Dover Neck in 1633.
He married, second or third, the widow of Darby Field, and her
name seems to have been Agnes, for William Williams and wife,
                t Agnes, signed a deed 18 June 1674."
