James A. Cook married Rebecca J. Young Lincoln, young widow in 1840s in IL  By 1880 census, both in their 60s (he born NY, she born RI), living Litchfield, Montgomery, Illinois  She is invalid, then no more record of either of them is found.  Her son moved to Missouri and then Toledo, Lucas, Ohio.  I cannot find them anywhere alive or deceased after the 1880 census. Where did they go, or did they die there?

Unfortunately, lots of places weren't keeping death records until 1900ish. And then there's the 1890 lost census, so unfortunately you may never know their fate. I think your best bet may be cemetery records. Check Findagrave and the other cemetery sites. You could call the Montgomery County Hist or Gen. Society and find out if they have cemetery listings. If you pinpoint a death place (usually where they are buried), you can also check for probate records

thanks for the prompt reply Anne.

I did find a James Albert Cook who died 3/19/1919 and is buried Nokomis Cemeter, Nokomis, Illinois.  It is possible it is him, though I have no way to know.  This was from the site history.montgomeryco.com website , Historical Soc. of Montgomery Co., Illinois.  Other than that one record, no luck so far. And no Rebecca under maiden or either married name.

Thank you! Jo

Probably not the 1919 guy, he'd be way old. Look for Rebecca next to him.

Wayne, Where is that record?  I dont' think I found that one.  Does he fit the age criteria -- born abt. 1819, NY ?  It would sure be cool if you found him!

thanks Wayne.  Yes she was a young widow and mother, and married him the same year her husband, Charles Gray Lincoln died.  Sad.  I have always wondered what happened to them in Litchfield.

Where did you see the death record for James Cook who died in 1893 in Litchfield ?  and Rebecca?

Has anyone seen this source mentioned above?  I would love to be able to verify that James Cook who m. Rebecca Young Lincoln, did indeed die and was buried in Litchfield, Montgomery, Illinois 26 January 1893.  Where is this record?  I'm still looking for verifiable information about when and where this couple died.  Thanks for any help in this.  Jo
