Maybe a few of us can put our heads together on this one. John Vaulton Childers is my 4th great grandfather as well, but I have his parents listed as William Cowherd Childers (1748-1802) and Martha Rebecca Lowther (1743-1803) - both of Virginia. They married in 1786 in West Virginia. I will admit that my research skills as a genealogist at the time were in their infancy and I simply accredited those facts to Ancestry.com, so I'm certainly open to new ideas. It seems that Janice Bright has commented most recently, so perhaps she can share her source of the information regarding JVC's parents. Perhaps can we all agree on two facts - one, that he married Mary Ann Taylor in Campbell County, VA on 19 Dec 1804 and two, that he died near San Felipe, Texas in 1838. Any further information anyone may have on him? A good portion of his descendants settled in Giles County, TN. I live in Nashville, about 80 miles north of there. His widow, Mary Ann, is buried in Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski, Giles, TN along with many other family members bearing the Childers surname.
