Subject: New York Trinity Church Records 1760 to 1782 for COURTNEY

My ancestor is Sarah COURTNEY born 3 August 1778 in New York. She lived in Brooklyn and took her grandson, Thomas SMITH, to Trinity Church graveyard.  She died when he was 13 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery with her daughter's family.  Thomas took his son, who took his daughter, who took her daughter.... me ... and I have taken my children and grandson. Being on-site has a strong impact on memory. However, in my genealogy quest I have become positive that it is not the graves of the family of Captain Andrew SMITH, but of his wife's family, the COURTNEYS. Of course she was honoring her own family!!!!

This is my data so far.

Checking the same two databases, there are numerous records for the other
families: STILWELL, RICHARDSON and PENNY in the same time period.
So my primary question is where my Sarah fits. My working theory is that she
is the elder sister Julian Perry Courtney, son of Thomas Courtney and Lois
(Penny)

Who was the Mrs Courtney died in 1777? The baptism of Ann Stillwell in 1779
had sponsor of Sarah Courtney. This was likely Sarah Stilwell, married to
Richard Courtney in 1762.
However, yet another Courtney husband is possible. It looks as though there
are more family members than are indicated.

Sarah Richardson could be wife of a son of Richard and Sarah Stilwell.
Thomas Courtney, husband of Lois, would likely another son of the elder Richard
Courtney

Also there were Courtney babies born between 1777 and 1780 the other marriage
of record. My Sarah would fit in this period. However, she would have had
to have different parents than child 1 and child 2 of the above burial records.

Does anyone have any information about the Courtney family in Manhattan in
this era? Were they involved in the Revolutionary War?
I have loads of questions and extremely little data. In this family group,
naming honored an ancestor. "Thomas" did not fit except with the possibility
of the Courtneys. That isn't data, but a flag to pay attention.

Sarah COURTNEY married twice
1. (James?) KELSO They had three daughters
2. Captain Andrew Hall SMITH They had one son, Thomas Ezekiel SMITH.
She died at the age of 91 and is buried in Green Wood Cemetery , Brooklyn.
Her records state that she and her parents were from NY.

I shall appreciate any leads, information and glimmers. I clear lack
sufficient data. AND if my Sarah fits somewhere else, I welcome that news too.
