The "Add" menu on the top needs to have less categories

Hope this message comes to Chris Whitten's attention. The second menu on the top (named "Add") has grown too much and it's impossible for me to see and select the lower menu points as they are outside of my screen (and we can't scroll on this menu).

These drop-down pop-up menus are a PITA design feature that would be best tossed on the scrap heap.  Plain old html links across the top or down the side would be far better.  The stuff on the right side now could be moved to the bottom (that would be a much better place for comments especially).  The DNA part could just have a button at the top right that is grayed out unless there is a profile linked, and then the details are near the bottom (just above coments).

As Gillian wrote below, this isn't the Add drop down menu, but the dropdown menu of our profile name. I concur it's WAY too long. I'd like to see deleted:

  • Connection to AJ (I couldn't give a hoot, and I believe this is available at the bottom of any page, anyway)
  • All the items that are ALSO already available on the Family Tree & Tools tab (except maybe DNA); why repeat it here? (This appears to be the major cause of the longgggg length of this drop-down.)
    • Compact Tree
    • Descendants - [plus I don't have any]
    • Dynamic tree
    • etc.
Add the tag "team" to get staff attention.
Team isn't a tag anybody follows, to my knowledge. And people keep thinking improvements is. I guess I may have to start following that one. :-)

It's on the to-do list to shorten the person menu.

FWIW, there's always more than one way to get to something.
For what it's worth: I would really appreciate having any selections to do with the family structure -- Descendants, Family Group sheet, etc -- just one click away as they are now on the dropdown menu. I'm sure I'm not the only one who uses those all the time, and to have them another layer deep would be a bit frustrating.
(FYI, another team member once suggested, in another g2g topic, that if we use the tag "team" it will get staff's attention; now it's completely and wholly possible, that I am mis-remembering.)
Good point, Julie; maybe they could be moved to another drop down menu of their own -- Tools?

Since that menu is associated with the profile I'm looking at when I see the menu, some of the items on that menu seem superfluous to me because they are prominently featured on the profile. I wonder if other folks use them. Items I would never use for this reason are:

  • Activity Feed (it's the same as the "Changes" tab)
  • Connection to AJ (if I'm interested, I can now find all of these connections at the bottom of the profile screen)
  • Edit
  • Merging Tools (if I want to merge, I'll go to the bottom of the profile)

(There are other things on the list that I never use for other reasons. This is just a list of a few that I can't imagine missing if they went away.)

Just to clarify: Merging Tools is different than what you find at the bottom of the page.

The Merging Tools page is pretty great -- you can find all the duplicates associated with that person all on one page. I use it all the time. :-)

Glad to know you find that useful, Julie. "Different strokes for different folks."

That's not the add column, it's the one next left to it, although that isn't going to solve your problem.
