Looking for the parents of Nels Petersen and Karen Petersen.

Looking for family of my grandparents Nels Petersen born 1843 in Denmark. died 1914 in Nebraska. His wife Karen was also born in Denmark. Their daughter was my great grandmother Mary Petersen born 1887 Nebraska and died 1970. Thanks.

Petersen is a very typical Danish name and on both profiles they are listed as born in Denmark.

His birthplace Ribe is a Danish city, but it is also the name of a county. I have looked in the church records for this city for a birth on Feb. 11, 1843, but did not find him.

About the spelling of his name, then it could be Niels, which is a common name in Denmark.

Karen doesn't have enough information for me to know where to look for her in Denmark.

The familysearch source indicates they were married in the US. He imigrated in 1873 and was married about 1875. Maybe you can find more information on Karen, if you can find the wedding?

On the gravestone that is referred to in his profile (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pv&GRid=48693460&PIpi=35237661) the birth date is recorded as 11 feb 1843, but the stone quite clearly says 7 feb 1843 and has his name as Neils P Petersen.

If this is the correct grave, then the person is with high probability born in Bryndum, in ribe County. The babtism can be found in the church records on http://www.sa.dk/ao the record is here: Kontraministerialbog 1836-67 display 13 http://ao.sa.dk/ao/data.ashx?bid=27003480

His full name is Niels Peter Pedersen.
