Have family in Roots magic want to import so I don't have to redo all the data will that work?

Hi, I am a new member. I have many brick walls and joined to perhaps find other family working on the people. I use Roots Magic for all my family data. I wanted to import a Gedcom so I didn't have to reinsert all my info. Will I be able to do that?

Importing large GEDCOM's results in a lot of clean-up work. It's perhaps safest to just import less than 50 people the first time to get a feel for how things work.

I also use Roots Magic. And I hate entering all the data again. So I've been importing small gedcoms about 25 people at a time. The data comes fine, with the connections made nicely. I usually just have to connect one person to "the big tree." The biography is messy. (better since the last update.) But sources come in as a disaster. Everything is repeated three times and I've discovered that roots magic has used the same repository for just about all my sources. The small gedcom is important, so you don't get overwhelmed by the work required anyway.

I also use RootsMagic and understand the not wanting to duplicate, but I would continue using RootsMagic as a storage for your files. Some will be incomplete during research and RootsMagic hs a lot of user helps.

IMHO sometimes importing  GEDCOM's is more work than it is worth. You could try to add two or three generations back from your self on each line and see what happens.You might be surprised to find what is already here.By the way welcome to Wiki tree!
