Dear Robert,

  My search in the 1880 census (FREE) on Ancestry.com for BOESE living in NJ had 15 exact, and 507 close [Boose and other spellings] matches.  Can you give more information?

  I saw Nicholas & Marie in Hoboken.  Frederick & Rebecca in Jersey City.  William & Albertina in Newark.  And more.

All I know is that my Great Grandmother, Mamie Mary Boese (Bose?), was born December 15, 1872 in New Jersey. I also just found out she had a brother but my 93 year old mother could not remember his first name.

Mamie married Harry Mertzmann (approx. 1887) who was born in Philadelphia and then they moved to San Diego County, California. Census information doesn't give Mamie's parents, only that she was born in New Jersey.

Pretty sure I've got them in the USA Fed census 1900 for San Diego Ward 7, California:

Mertzman, Harry born Dec 1868 Penn, parents born Germany

     "          , Mamie   Aug 1872 NEW YORK, parents born Germany

     "          , Bernard   July 1893, California, parents born Penn, NY

Harry is a butcher.  He and Mamie have been married eight years. Bernard is the only child born to Mamie so far.

   So, the best would be to find their marriage record from about 1892.  Do you think they were married in California?  Often, the bride & groom's parents were named on the marriage record.  Good luck!  -NGP
