I recently learned that there's a genealogy conference, Who Do You Think You Are? Live that's happening in a few weeks time (April 7-9, 2016) in Birmingham, UK. As it's a relatively short flight away (now that I'm living in the EU), I'm considering attending. However, as I've never been to a genealogy event before, I'm wondering if it's worth the time and effort. I see that a few WikiTree folks attended last year, and some have attended a related event in Glasgow. Also, there are other similar events (e.g. I see "RootsTech" mentioned frequently here!) that many of you have attended. So perhaps you could help me to understand:
What's benefits have you experienced going to such events?
What is there to do?
How have you participated?
Did you learn anything about your own family tree / history / lineage by attending that might not have happened otherwise?
Do the exhibitors sell stuff? Provide consultation? Access to resources? Anything useful? (e.g. What might Ancestry DNA be offering: "Visit the Ancestry stand to take advantage of exclusive show offers and find out more."??)
Greatly appreciate any advice and answers.
Cheers!
Jeffrey
P.S. Is anyone from WikiTree attending this?
