FamilySearch: Missing Massachusetts Birth Records ???

+8 votes

Back in January, I discovered a family where the children had been duplicated using different spellings of the last name. So, I found birth records on for each child with the correct spelling of their last name and copied the citations to each profile.

This morning, I discovered that all of the merges had gone into default approval status, so I started putting through the merges. I needed to double-check something on one of the profiles, so I clicked through to the FamilySearch record, and got a 404 Not Found message.

This prompted me to check the rest of the children, and I discovered that each and every birth record I had cited is now missing from the Massachusetts Births and Christenings, 1639-1915 index.

I've submitted a problem report to the support email @ FamilySearch, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had similar problems.

I had the same problem this morning.
Was it the same collection, Maureen?
Yes, it was.

Edit:  I just checked.  It seems to be back.
Mine are not. :-/
I did not check the one I was looking for.  I forget which one it was.  Maybe it is just one group.  A county or a certain time period?

I just went to Benjamin's profile and clicked on the underlined section of this source, and was taken to the record on familysearch?  Not sure what you are asking.

Massachusetts Deaths, 1841-1915," database with images, FamilySearch ( : accessed 27 January 2016), Sarah Lathe, 30 Apr 1844; citing Grafton, Massachusetts, v 9 p 128, State Archives, Boston; FHL microfilm 959,807.

Chris, Julie's talking about the birth record citations on the profiles of Benjamin's children.  I got the same result, 404 Not Found.
Thanks, Nan. :-)

Julie, I just checked a few on my profiles, and the links work.  I accessed these in early February, after you accessed the Lathe records.  I wonder what happened in between?

That's what I'm hoping to find out, Nan! I'll make sure to report back if I hear anything from FamilySearch.

They have warnings posted all over their wiki that an update was done, but I wouldn't think that would have affected the record collections.

Maybe someone here who is more familiar with the behind-the-scenes mechanics there will be able to shed some light. :-)
Interesting.  I had a record disappear  at nearly the same time and just posted a question asking how to recreate the listing.  I wonder what is going on?
I have still not heard anything from the support team at FamilySearch, Beulah.

The mystery continues! ;-)
