Some help would be much appreciated in deciding the correct LNAB for this noble ...
He is listed in the FMG as:
: "GUILLAUME [I] "Talvas" de Ponthieu, son of ROBERT de Montgommery "de Bellême" Seigneur d'Alençon, Comte de Ponthieu, Earl of Shrewsbury & his wife Agnès de Ponthieu"
I took the "Talvas" to be a nickname, shown in quotations, in the middle of the "GUILLAUME de Ponthieu" ...
Last year we merged Alençon-12 (Guillaume (Alençon) de Bellême) into this profile and just completed a merge of Talvas-57 (William III Talvas). I've gone back to Cawleys' work to see what could be done to reword the copied stuff from same and possibly prune some of the children.
I now see that he is recorded under various styling's, sometimes under his title, "Wilelmus comes Pontivi" and "Gulielmus comes Pontivorum" in charters, but then Guillaume of Jumièges records him as ”Willelmum Talavatium” and Robert of Torigny shows him as Willermus Talavacius comes Sagiensis and when recording his death as "Guillermus Talavercius comes Pontivi" ...
Just wanting to get this right.
Also, an interesting note regarding the "Talvas" nickname, his g-grandson, Guillaume II is shown in this same way, GUILLAUME [II] "Talvas" de Ponthieu.
Please weigh in on this, if you would,
Thanks,
Dan
