Can I add wards to the city?

Would anyone object if I started adding the wards to the Philadelphia category?

While neighborhoods like Germantown and Manayunk are helpful if you live here.  They don't mean anything to anyone who doesn't.

And should they go [[  Philadelphia, Ward 20  ]] or [[  Ward 20, Philadelphia ]]

Hi Maureen,

How would you do it?  The political wards have been constantly changed from 1854 until 1965.  Even neighborhood boundaries have changed.  What was once Kensington, is now, in certain areas, Fishtown. Would it be better to list both the neighborhood, and the political ward (at the time of profile) in the BIO section?  Then, if anyone were interested, they could research both?  Just a thought.

I'm sorry.  I meant the census wards.  They are quite consistent.  When I am researching Murphy's, I know most of the ones related to me lived in Ward 20.

When I am looking for my father's family the 18th and 25th wards cover Kensington, certain areas of Frankford and that general area.

Death certificates also have the census wards on them.
Thanks for the clarification.  I personally have no problem with what you're proposing.  Anything that would narrow down or aid in searches would be great.  Will you be listing the boundaries for the wards on the category page?  (I think I prefer  [[Philadelphia, Ward 20]]. ). Good luck!
I also prefer, Philadelphia, Ward 20.   I will add the maps I think.  Or, the boundaries.

Edit.  I can't find the maps.  I am creating them on Google Maps.

Did you ever end up doing this? I was just thinking about it but I didn't see anything under the Philadelphia category and I'm still pretty new to the site...
I did a lot of them.  They are under Philadelphia, Pennsylvania category.  They look like this: Philadelphia, Ward 25, Pennsylvania.  Some of them are linked to google map sites. like this one.
