Why is Alan's last name different than his family before him?

He's fictitious.  George Calvert (Baltimore) was the son of Leonard Calvert by his 1st wife Unknown Unknown.  Leonard's parents are also unknown.

George's wife had some ancestry.  Cecil's wife had a lot more.

Sir Walter Claverley (b.1433;d.1488) and
Agnes TEMPEST (b.1421;d.1489) are Alan's Parents

look on www.kiplinhall.co.uk for the Calvert Family family tree of the 6 Lords of Baltimore.
