James Brookshaw/Brookshire descendants

+6 votes
I have seen many different trees with/without James Brookshire(1720-1790) son of James and Sarah Mannering. Haven't been able to find any good sources that either prove or disprove.

Also have William(1710-1736) and William(1730-1779). Some say, brothers, William and Mannering both died the same day and year and some say the 2 that died in the Revolutionary War were cousins. I am leaning towards William(1710-1736), who had a son William(1730-1779). The wives of each would point this way.

Any help would be appreciated on both questions.

Dear Ronn,

The National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has four patriots with the surname Brookshire.  Three had service from North Carolina; one from Maryland.

The NC name are Mannering Brookshire Jr & Sr, and William Brookshire. There is a note on the files that an error has been identified with some papers that "Thomas who married Sally Fincher" was the son of Mannering Sr, not Jr.  Also, I see there that Mannering Jr died before Sr, which could also cause some confusion.

William Brookshire, 1756-1836, is shown with a wife Mary Ann ___.  All the accepted papers have descents through his son James & wife Elizabeth Tilley.

Hope this helps!  -NGP
lol, just adds more confusion to my research

It does show support that William 1710-1736. Which is the way I leaned

Still can;t find a James though

Mary Ann Marlow

BIRTH 30 MARCH 1762 • Rowan, North Carolina, USA

DEATH 26 MARCH 1830 • Elk, Wilkes, North Carolina, USA

wife of 6th great-uncle

That would also confirm what I read about William and Mannering being cousins that died in the war instead of being brothers.  And as a dummy I can't find the site that mentioned this.
