Why aren't inline citations detailed in the Style Guide?

+11 votes
I have seen recommendations on using inline citations on the G2G Forum, but was searching for details of this in the Style Guide when discussing this with a PM.  Did I miss something in the Guide?  I did not see it recommended nor any statements that state how to put this in the Bio section.

Please point me in the right direction or explain if we are NOT strongly encouraging members to use this.  Thank you

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sources It's not really in the Style Guide, but is referenced in the Sources Style Guide. I agree that it should probably be directly in the Sources Style Guide or at least featured more prominently.

This is confusing:  in the http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sources, there is a section titled "Embed them as references (footnotes)", and in the Style Guide (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sources_Style_Guide)  it states not to use Footnotes: There should be no "Footnotes" or other headline above the references. You will see this on some older profiles because it used to be the default style.

Thank you Chase, for pointing me to this other link.

Hi Vicki

Where the Sources Style Guide says There should be no "Footnotes" or other headline above the references,it's talking about the heading "Footnotes" not the embedded references.

Also when in edit mode on a profile, on the right hand side of the bio section, there's a "mini" instruction on creating inline sources, with links to the more detailed page. This is very handy when learning how, and the ==Sources == <references /> is right there to copy/paste if you need it.
