Trying to put my family tree back intact post fire.

Question

I am Julia Diane Williams, daughter of Mary Kathrine Howard (deceased) Granddaughter to  Virginia Trotter Alverson (married to John Preston Williams, one child (my father) both Virginia and John are deceased)

Virginia's mother was Mabel Trotter Alverson (deceased) married to Melvin Sydney Alverson (deceased) they had 4 children, all deceased, 2 daughters whose names I can't recall,  they died of scarlet fever around the ages 4 to 7. Virginia, and Melvin Sydney Jr..  This is where I get stuck,  I am told that I am related to the people who own the Trotter Reality company that sells beach properties up and down the NC, SC and GA coast, But we lost the family bible and my grandmother died before I could get the information from her.  I've also been told that we are directly related to an Earldom in the UK, but here is where I get stuck,  I hope my info can help you.  And maybe you can help me.  When I search Earl of Trotter, I get links to the Earls Guary and Auckland and apparently those left of the Trotters I'm related to resettled to Ireland and are counted among the gentry there to this day( after choosing the Scottish side during a very important war against England.) I'll keep digging and make a wikitree eventually but I feel like I've hit a wall.

Thank you, I did not give my fathers name as he is still living, *he was adopted in 1951 in Greensboro NC and I can trace Mable Trotter Alverson back in the DAR records.

I am glad for you to read this today, I have been through 2 house fires & then Black mold ate all the photos & paperwork I had saved for my sons tree. Is why I digitized every photo image I had no matter its condition & added to google & here & there.

From your description above, for the family of Melvin Alverson and Mabel (Trotter) Alverson - only Virginia is missing from their list. I do see two of the girls that died young listed there - Margaret (1918-1922) and Marjorie Lanier (1925-1930). It seems likely this is the right family.

And by bringing the 1920 Census in, Virginia was there. I'm certain this is the correct family. Not a lot on the Trotters, but it can be built from here.

Sorry - so far that's about all I can find. There may be a way to link Thomas Trotter born 1800 in Virginia to his European counterparts, but it will take a bit more digging to figure that out.

One more generation back - or at least a clue. Thomas Trotter's father was Dr. Thomas Trotter of Nansemond, VA. Not sure of birth date or birth place, but at least this part is clear. I've found several Thomas Trotters, some born 1760 in Scotland who died around 1813 - the story (from Find-A-Grave) is that Dr. Trotter died when his two boys, Thomas and Joshua, were young. The death in 1813 would match this story fairly well. The two boys then struck off on their own, Thomas to the Charlotte area, and Joshua to Ohio. Eventually Joshua returned to NC, and one of Joshua's non-blood related step-children married one of Thomas's children. Interesting stories in your lineage - hope some of this helps.
