Did you notice the small changes on edit-person pages?

Hi WikiTreers,

We just made a small round of improvements to the edit-person page, i.e. the page for editing a person's profile.

  • Most noticeably, there are colored backgrounds indicating the gender for siblings, spouses, and children in the Edit Family column.
  • The siblings, spouses, and children are numbered. This was a recent suggestion here
  • The family members' names use the standard versions found elsewhere (see Name Displays on a person's pull-down menu for an explanation). This means that the name of a public person will now display in its longer form, e.g. with formal first name and middle name instead of preferred first name.
  • There are now direct links to go to family members' edit pages. It's this icon link next to their names:
  • There are some more informative mouse-over titles. In particular, the colored privacy dots are explained a little better when you hover over them with your cursor.

Just small things that hopefully make editing a smidge easier.

If you have questions, problems, or more suggestions, post here.

Thanks!

Chris

It is the "little" enhancements on this ever evolving and growing tree that are greatly appreciated! Good on you!
Chris,

These are nice additions.  I like the info displayed when you hover over the sibling, children or spouse names.  Thank you for your hard work.
Thank you all very much! I appreciate the kind words.

Good news, another little improvement to the edit page is coming very soon. This one could make a big difference. There will be a "cite your source" button above the editing box that inserts a pair of <ref> tags.
Wow that sounds interesting Chris
Definitely like the numbering of siblings and children feature.  Not much liking the colouring feature, personal vision problem that is making things harder to see with those present.

About the part "improvements to the edit-person page... there are colored backgrounds indicating the gender for siblings, spouses, and children in the Edit Family column."

I don't see an 'Edit Family' column, and i don't see colored backgrounds except for the silhouettes that are placeholders for photos.

Where are these things?

Hi Juli,

When you are actually editing a profile, if you look on the right hand side where the parents, siblings etc are listed out, the header at the top reads 'Edit Family'.

Thanks, yes, I see that now.  I still wonder, Where are the "colored backgrounds indicating the gender for siblings, spouses, and children"?

Hi Juli,

You don't see them in the right column here?http://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Straehle-13&action=edit

Chris
pink or blue, and ungendered are green, the colours are pretty faint.

Looks good.  Unfortunately I noticed I had one of my brothers as a girl.  And the edit symbol does  save a click or two.

Better call it fortunately you noticed you made your brother a girl before he noticed!
