John Jacob's book which is referenced in Thomas Bell's record, is there a way for you to access it to see about possible deaths of his siblings and parents?

Thank you, Frank!  What I cannot find is any more information on Peter and Ann, or any of the siblings.  I think I found one record of their marriage in 1819......after this info, they seem to have disappeared.  This is a dead end for me.  :)
I have not found more on Peter and Ann in spite of searching familysearch.org . My mother was a Bell and I have a line that traces back to Monaghan County, Ireland, then to southern England and likely to Scotland. If you run across additional clues or if someone has other resources, your quest may become resolved.
Thank you so much.  My DNA results were 68% Great Britain - mostly Wales and north, and 20% Ireland.  I hope that I have as much luck as you have had.  i will continue my search.  I do appreciate your help, Carol
I believe I have found records on a will and probate / orphans court on Peter Bell for 1837.  I am guessing that perhaps my 2nd great grandfather was orphaned, and Peter was his father.  Also, I found evidence of Margaret Esther Bell Parsons, born 1820, who is John B Bell's sister.  She was baptized in the Lutheran church at the age of 13 by a Charles and Charlotte Bell.  Maybe both parents, Peter and Ann Bell, passed away in 1837 and all the children were orphaned?  The will and probate records from Somerset County, Maryland does not mention children's names.  But in the year, 1838, John B. moved to Missouri, and I have found records of Margaret Esther staying in Maryland and two brothers living with her (Joseph and Noah) when she was married to Theodore Parsons.  Can anyone help with this?  Thank you, Carol     Sorry this is so very long.  I'm stuck.

For info on the surname origin, try http://www.surnamedb.com/Surname/Bell

Last name: Bell

This interesting surname, with variant spellings Bel and Belle, has a number of possible derivations. Firstly, it may be a metonymic occupational name for a bellringer or bellfounder, or a topographical name for someone living "at the bell"; this indicates either residence by an actual bell or "at the sign of the Bell", deriving from the Middle English, Olde English pre 7th Century "belle" meaning bell. Secondly, it may have derived from the medieval given name "Bel". As a man's name this is from the Old French "beu, bel" meaning "handsome", which was also used as a nickname. As a female name it represents a short form of Isobel, a form of Elizabeth. Finally, it may be an Anglicized form of the Gaelic "MacGiolla Mhaoil", "son of the servant of the devotee". The surname dates back to the mid 12th Century (see below). Early recordings include one Robert de la Belle (1222) London. Church recordings show the christening of Mary Bell, an infant, on August 13th 1541, at St. Peter's, Cornhill, London, and the marriage of Margarett Bell to Wylliam Traford on September 13th September 1551, at St. Mary's, Westminster, also in London. One Charles Bell, aged 23 yrs., a famine emigrant, sailed from Liverpool aboard the "Henry Clay", bound for New York, on April 15th 1846. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Seaman Belle, which was dated 1181 - 1187, in "Early London Personal Names", by E. Ekwall, during the reign of King Henry 11, known as "The Builder of Churches", 1154 - 1189. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.

Wonderful; wonderful!  I will certainly look all of this up!!!!....Also, my father's name is Robert (however, I find no Robert's in my search as of now)  There is a large gap between the birth of John B. in 1827 and 1838, when John B moved to Missouri where I am originally from...I will not give up; I am determined to get to the bottom of this!  Also, I heard once that there is a possibility that my Bell's might be "Border Bell's" / Border River's.   Thank you!!!  You know know how much you have encouraged me to go on.  Carol

Excellent!.......how did you find all that????  In the meantime, I did find out that John B. did have a sister named, I think, Margaret Esther.  I found something my grandmother wrote that said John B. sent his two daughters to stay with an aunt, Mrs. Parsons (Margaret Esther Bell Parsons).  I am researching everyone on your list.  Thank you so much for your persistence!  I'm  all over this.  Carol
The info was found at familysearch.org , a free site. You may want to try it.

There seem to be a large number of folks with the Bell surname in London and northern England. Click on England & Wales to see the counties. Run the curser over each county to get more details.

Click on Scotland and note how the population of Bells shifted from the time of the clearances until 1901.

I'm stuck.
