Please clarify what you mean by "handled differently".  Thank you.

Could you give some examples?

They aren't. Example: Donna Marie Edmonston... Married: John P Vickery III. Donna's name now becomes Donna Marie (Edmonston) Vickery. Or Donna Marie Vickery formerly Edmonston.

In Latino / Mexico / Spanish-Speaking culture it is different, here is an explanation of that: http://latijam.jomc.unc.edu/latijam/?p=1339 .

On the female middle name or inital it shows up in the compiled version.  On the male middle name it never shows up in the compiled version.  I have seen this repeatly thru out  the only way I can get the male name to show is to add it to the preferred name field. Try it You will see.

Example: It has nothing to do with the maiden name.  I am talking about the middle name.

Please post some profiles to show what you mean.

Yes, we understand it's about middle names.  When we ask for examples, we mean specific profiles where you see male and female middle names handled differently.  Such as this example of a male and a female where they aren't handled differently:

Harriet Catherine Bandy -- http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bandy-361 and

Bluford Wilson Bandy -- http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bandy-23

I can't see a difference in how the middle names show up.  Neither one has the middle name in the preferred name field.

Norman, you referred to the compiled version. Which/what "compiled" version are you talking about?

Dodge-1356 and then the son Earnest

I think this is what he means if others want to look

To emphasize the first name, set

Preferred Name = Proper Name = first name

Middle Name = middle name

   To emphasize both names, set

Preferred Name = Proper Name = both names

Middle Name = blank

To emphasize the middle name, best you can do is

Proper Name = both names

Preferred Name = middle name

Middle Name = blank.

RJ, for some reason I started singing Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge.

I would  gladly show you examples but something has happened And it is no longer happening.  Now things are working properly. Some one changed things.

OK I found one My self My Middle name does not show at the top of the
saved page Dodge-1352

Privacy settings are an issue.  They affect the treatment of the Middle Name field.  They may also affect the use of Proper versus Preferred, I can't remember.

If you enter a middle name in the primary or preferred name field, instead of the middle name field, it will display differently (incorrectly).
