I am new to Wikitree and have found my grandmother:- Johanna Gertruida Bothma, b. 8/12/1890. d. 23/5/1958 on Elizabeth Bothma's Wikitree. I have not gained permission yet to add to my Wikitree, but would like to respectfully request permission to be added to your list of volunteering colaborators. I have a number of trees on myheritage.com and the details of my Grandmother are listed on some of them. The main one I am running presently with Premium Plus statis is named Benadie Family Tree and my name is Charmaine Miles.

Elisabeth's grandfather is my seventh great grandfather ... So we must be cousins, though I have not yet been able to establish the exact link. We would apreciate it if you could help source her profile and fill in the details in the collaborative fashion we use - see this example: Johannes (Coutie) Coetzee (1688 - after 1727).

I have added you as active manager to her profile.

Philip, I have found a bit of info on Elisabeth Johanna Bothma and also that she is linked to another genealogist by the name of Willem Pretorius. I have sent him a private message re the middle name of Geertruy (Elisabeth's mother) and also asked to be added to Willems trusted list. I am concerned that with being so new I may very well be duplicating information. I also found Elisabeths marriage details to Johan Wilhelm Heyning 23 Feb 1794 Cape Town. Some information appears to show Elisabeth's father as Cornelis Arnoldus Botma and her mother, Geertruy Maria Bockelenberg on the same entry. It appears as if Cornelis Bothma and Cornelis Arnoldus Bothma are two different people (one being her father and the other her brother). The entries I found linked both to Geertruy Maria Bockelenberg as the spouse and mother of Elizabeth). So clarity needs to be sought to see if Cornelis and Cornelis Arnoldus have been taken as the same person or if indeed they should be two different people. I will continue to work on this, but hope to have your oversight please. I have also not found a connection between my grandmother Johanna Gertruida Bothma b. 1890 and Elisabeth Johanna as yet.  I have included the source details on the entry on Elisabeth Johanna's profile, so please can I ask you to just check for me and verify that I have done it all correctly. Thank you.

Hi Charmaine, had I not by accident stumbled on this feed again, it would not have come to my attention. It is custom to post profile specific information on the profile itself [comment box for example], unless it is a question for G2G help. As regards your information, I do not completely follow you, as I do not have access to the same info / data. Also, as was happened in many cases, the first names of children were often also the first names of the parents. This can be very confusing indeed. That is why uploading primary records are so important. Especially baptism records. Als for the exact spelling of the LNAB, and who the parents were.

The source details I included in the body of the biography, though I miss a big part of source. It needs full citation. Name, date, page, who put it there [you] and on what date [when].
Philip. I have printed out much of the teaching info from Wikitree in an attempt to learn the system, but it is one of the most complex systems I have ever encountered. I do not have the best of memories and find it necessary to have the teaching pages next to me till I am familiar with the system and then only with much repetition of the same processes do I finally get to grips with it. I did sight the actual documentation as well as photos of handwritten registers when I looked into the abovementioned, but I do not know how to transport them into the Wikitree profiles. I went into familysearch without going the Wikitree route as I got myself into a mess when I tried the Wikitree route. So please bare with me as I find my feet, so to speak. I do know it appears that there are listings that may have been interlinked with each other re the person called Cornelis Bothma/Cornelis Arnoldus Bothma. I saw that the spouse was always the same though, which is what made me think it was one and the same person. It appears that Elizabeth Johanna,s father and brother have the same name, but doubt they would have had the same spouse. I will keep working on it. Kind regards, Charmaine.
No problem Charmaine, I could ask someone to help you (though I am a mentor myself, I will have very little time the coming weeks). WikiTree has a very steep learning curve. It took me a while just to get the basics right. Kind regards, Philip
Thank you Philip. I value your help and also the bits of information I am reading here and there when I look at some of the profile sites that I have visited i.e. Frances Stroebel's. I am putting in quite a bit of time now as it is the onset of entering my family tree members, and so not spending as much time in looking up other people's questions, but will hopefully get to do that in the not too distant future. I too will be away for some time in May/June, but will still try and look in from time to time. I am thoroughly enjoying it immensely and learning much. Thank you again for all your help. Kind regards, Charmaine.
