My great great grandfather was James Hickey from County Clare, who died in 1846 during the potato famine. My great great grandmother died the same year. John Hickey was one of their five children, but was born in 1831 in County Clare. He was 13 years old then and went to Scotland to work along with his six-year old brother, Thomas. Their oldest brother, David Hickey, emigrated to the US and saved money for his four siblings to join him. John and his siblings went to Wisconsin, then finally settled in Marshall and Stark Counties in Illinois, sometime between 1848 and 1860. One of the girls was named Catherine. The other one might have been named Margaret.
