My Walker family were based in Stockport. I was born there in 1940, My father, Harry, likewise in 1914 and my Grandfather, Harry, in 1875. He had a brother George, a sister Susannah, a half brother John Watts and a half Sister Sarah. I am fairly certain (but not sure) that my Great Grandfather's name was Joseph Walker. The family lived in Heaton Norris, an area of Stocport sometimes named as being in Lancashire and at other times in Cheshire.

Ours are from Glasgow Scotland so not ours.
I  have Walkers in my family tree from Lancashire, my 4th great-grandfather on my father's side is Joseph Nicholas Walker, birth date about 1772 in Lancashire, death in 1851 in Lancashire, his wife's name was Margaret James Lochrie, they had a son Joseph, 1802-1829, I don't know how much info I have on the Walkers on Wikitree, I have a lot on Ancestry.ca. If either of these Joseph Walkers sound like they might be your ancestor, Joseph Walker, message me, I will help with what I have,
Thank you for your reply. All help with the Walker side of my tree is appreciated.

I have found my grandfather Harry Walker. He was born 1871 in Heaton Norris, Stockport. He died in 1949 in Stockport. His father was Joseph Walker born in about 1830 and apparently died prior to the 1881 census as he does not appear there. His wife Ann Watts was born in 1829 and died in 1914.Joseph's father was probably John Walker born in 1806. My evidence for Joseph and John is not absolute as I have not been able to get any further data.
sorry Peter, I mixed up some info in my earlier reply, that will teach me to reply late at night when I am tired, anyway, Joseph Nicholas Walker's wife was not Margaret James, it was Agnes Casson Walker, Margaret James Walker was his mother. My branch of the Walker family ( as best as I can determine, they all bred like rabbits) were in and around  Seathwaite, Kirkby Ireleth, Barrow in Furness and Dalton in Furness and surrounding countryside. For the most part my branch of the Walkers were Church of England. there were some Walkers in Lancashire  who were Congregationalists. Oh and sadly, Joseph Walker is a very common name in Lancashire, in several generations.
Thank-you for contacting me, but no our Walker is connected to Burnside (maybe even Bairnside  further back) and Boskill/Boskell families (I know of a Janet) Barr, of Glasgow, Scotland. And in Australia, Knight,Cuthbertson,Overton, and many more.

Elizabeth aka Bessie Burnside born 1898 (daughter of Elizabeth Main/Maine and Walter Burnside ,Elizabeth (Bessies family went to Australia but she stayed behind due to her job and husband) she'd  m Thomas Walker (son of a James Walker and unkwn Jane)-James was a farmer.

Elizabeth (Bessie) Walker nee Burnside had a daughter born in the 1920s called Barbara nicknames Babs!.

Our Elizabeth (Bessie) Walker nee Burnside, was a Chorous girl and I've lost there whereabouts after the 1911 Cathcart Census.

I'm not sure if Elizabeth (Bessie) Walker nee Burnside  and her other siblings were born in George st, Glasgow Scotland, but I know her brother James Burnside was (who was my husbands grandfather )..Burnside and other rellies  in Australia would love to descover what happened to Bessie and her descendants etc!.

Thankyou anyways!.

Hi Peter, After looking on Family Search.org found Harry Walker, Born 1875 in Congleton, Cheshire, England. Do you think this may have been your Grandfather or not.

Also found Birth Registration for Harry Walker Born 1914 in Stockport, Cheshire, England, Mothers Maiden name Coppock

. Also found Harry Walker born 1914, on "New York New York Passenger and Crew Lists 1909, 1925-1957," Harry was aged 16 on document. If you think the sources are correct let me know and I will put them up tomorrow.

Thank you for your response, it is good to know that others are searching the "WALKER" name. Being a rather common name does not make it any easier.

The 1914 date is indeed my father but the other references are not. After rechecking my grandfather's details I am now certain the 1875 date is wrong. Further checking tells me he was born in 1871 in Heaton Norris, Stockport. His mother was Ann Watts.

Thanks again.
Could this be the correct Harry Hope it helps

Hello, My Walker ancestors come from Stockport Cheshire with some cousins still living there. We have alternate generations of Thomas and William verified to 1853 with unverified back to a soldier Thomas serving in the Stockport barracks in 1851- 1853 at least with his father William a whitesmith. married to Hannah Macraith/ Mcgrath  who was probably Irish and two further generations of Walkers married Irish women after this and were and are of Catholic faith. There was also strong connection to the Irish Basquil family in the region.

Until I can verify where our soldier originates I am of the belief that Stockport Walkers are probably related. When I was looking for our William born 1853 where was also a William H Walker who's census's did not fit.

Thanks. There is a probable connection somewhere with these WALKERS. However at this point in time none of the names in your note match up with my tree. I am still digging in Stockport and maybe a connection will arise.

Thanks again.

Yes, as you can see from my tree, my family is in Cheshire.  :)

From what I've gathered so far (as you say, the Walker side isn't easy to trace) they originated down South, though.

Cheers.

Hi Peter.

My birth name was Roy James Walker, my mother, Elsie Walker nee Scholes and later Hopwood, was married to Kenneth Stephen Walker (born 1914 - died 2001) about 1939 in Stockport, Cheshire. They divorced around 1952, and Elsie (my mum) remarried, marrying my Biological father, Edward Auberon Hopwood (born 1921 - died 2004), this may be the reason that Elsie and Walker divorced. As far as my research goes I understand that Kenneth Dtephen Walkers mothers maiden name was Sharpe. I hope that this in someways helps you with your research.
