Shared Photo: Marriage: OWENES, Lee and Bertha

Question

This is my maternal Grandparents, Lee Owenes and Bertha Amazon Sanders, when they got married! He was 21, she was 16 - and they eloped! Both born in Mississippi. They had nine children, including my mother - the 8th born, in 1935.

I wanted to share this family photo of Bertha Owenes with the community. Location: Franklin, Mississippi, USA. Date: May 1912.

Yes! They had 9 children, including my mother, who was the 8th born. My grandfather worked in the sawmill, from the time he was 17. His parents both died before 1905. My grandmother raised her kids, and several grandchildren. They didn't have a lot of money. There were three sons, six daughters.

9 children, that is a lot of children, but it was like that those days.

So your granddad work in a sawmill it need a lot of Money to feed all those children.

Thank you! I never knew my Grandfather - he died in May, 1956. But I DID know my Grandmother! I was very fortunate to know ALL my grandmothers.
