Is adding profile links to a city category allowed? If so, how is it done?

If I have ancestors who lived their lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, how can I add their profiles to "Category:Cincinnati, Ohio"?

One easy way to see how to do it is to click on other profiles that are on the category and check how they did it e.g. Biechler-9

On the profile page, above Biography add Category: Cincinnati, Ohio enclosed in [[]]

When you hit save, the profile will be in the category.  If the category is in red on the profile page, come back here and we will fix it.

Other WeeTee's already answered the "how" part. Be reminded that user profiles should always be added to the lowest possible category, so if there are actually boroughs below Cincinnati, Ohio than the correct one should be used.

Only accepted exclusion to the above rules is when there is no further detailed information is given, like "born in Ohio" would be suitable to put the Ohio as a state category for this profile. Once more detailed information is being found, it should be changed.

Hope this clarification helps. Please do always check that the category exists.

Thank you for the clarification. That will certainly help me to get it right in the future. How about when a narrowing category is not present? Can I add it?

The other case is when a category is there, but in red. What do I need to do to use it?

Magnus gave the right answer already. I have a couple of categories in one text file ready for this case. So for me it's easy to create a new category as I usually operate in the same location (county) and when I come across a new location that isn't in WikiTree yet I just add it by clicking on the red link (which opens a new window with a blank canvas).

Then I first copy the correct higher category to ensure that the new category isn't forgotten and dangling unconnected in the air. In case the higher category isn't there yet I still add it and do the same (clicking on the red link, etc.).

It's always good to use some sources to double check that the category is put in at the right place. Wikipedia usually has a regional structure on the right hand side in a box, other geolocation sources like eg in Germany gov.genealogy.net are available that give you the correct information even for past, no longer actual regional structures.

So while a location is under the current structure pointing to a certain county, it might be that it was under a different jurisdiction in former times. Just add that link as well, but I think you're familiar with editing categories.
