A Plug for Credible Profiles

I manage a number of profiles.  Some I have spent a lot of time on and am proud of.  Others I uploaded with a Gedcom and haven't had a chance to go back and clean up -- and they show it.  Unsourced, unedited, shall I say unintelligent -- in short, crap.

One of the joys of WikiTree is that non WikiTree people who browse the pages can contact me through WikiTree when they find something of interest.  Often they provide more information; we can put things together and both of our research is stronger.  It's a win-win all around.

And you know what?  It's the profiles that are full of information, well researched, well documented, that make those connections.  I've never gotten a note that says, "I notice you have crap.  I have crap, too.  Do you want to trade notes?"

In case it still needs to be said, this is a strong plug for taking the extra time to research, document and expand those profiles!

Jack, I empathize with you. Many of us are trying to clean up profiles that have been imported years ago and left "orphaned" without proper sourcing. I have checked to see if there are matches or duplicates for each profile I've added.  Just yesterday I found that there is an orphaned "match" that is part of an imported tree with an entirely different spelling of the last name- and the wrong parents for about 12 children! I make mistakes too sometime, so I went back to the Censuses and other records, to verify that the parents recorded here are indeed actually the grandparents. Now I have to go back and change all of those profiles? It seems a daunting task that will take hours. Well, I can't leave it as is can I? So I have adopted said profiles that were imported in 2010.  And I worry that there are duplicates that don't show up when I check, ie., different  LN spellings. And...have I overlooked any profiles from a smaller tree I imported? I like WikiTree because it requires sourcing, and that gives credence to our work although, much patience is required.
