Looking for parents and birth info for Joseph Bittner b-1855 in Poznan, Germany (now Poland).

Question

Information I have obtained from family members shows that he was born 4 March 1855 in Poznan Germany. He immigrated to the USA in approx. 1888 and died in Grafton, Ohio, 29 Nov 1923. The only information I have is from his death certificate stating that his father's name was Alvin Bittner.  Obtaining any information on his wife Victoria has been even more difficult.  

I know the area was Prussia, then Poland, then Germany, then Poland again over the past 150+/- years, but I don't know if this is the trouble in finding any information or if I am potentially not looking in the right places.

Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly apprecitated.

This record with scan can be found on www.basia.famula.pl.  There are several records listed, spelling of last name varies, but wife's name is the same on all the records. Maybe it's your Joseph and Victoria?
