Walter Scott - did he have biological siblings?

I need to find out if Walter Scott (Scott-16687) had any biological siblings. His father was John Scott, mother Mary (I don't have a maiden name) who later married a 'Dodd'. In census of 1871 he was the only child at that stage. The next census I could find was 1881 when Mary (mother) had married a James Dodd and Walter is shown as a step child. If these details are correct I would like to find out if John Scott had died or divorced by 1881. I have been to Free BMD and family search and am struggling to get info to confirm facts.

I think it unlikely that Walter had any siblings by his parents.

I would say John Scott's death is recorded in Wigan, 1872, at the age of 30: (Wigan Vol.8c, Page 18 q March 1872 age 30)

Mary's remarriage is recorded in Wigan, 1873. (Wigan 8c/95 q March)
