Change to correct LNAB before or after merge?

Have two profiles which need to be merged: McCloud-3 and McCleod-2. They are clear duplicates.

Problem: just found correct spelling of LNAB should be McLeod. Should the name be changed on one of them before the merge or wait until it is completed and then change it?

To reduce the number of redirects, it's best to change one profile to the correct LNAB before merging, then merge the other profile(s) to that profile.

(But first, do check to make sure that you've found all the profiles for this person, including any additional spellings like MacCleod and MacLoud.)

Thanks, Ellen. Will make the change on the one I manage. Have searched all variants I can think of and found no more duplicates.

I say this a lot.  Remember to add the alternate spellings to the "other last names" box. So people searching for the incorrect spellings will find them.
