How to handle names of stillborn children...

+10 votes

I have a situation where there was a known stillborn child -- there are birth & death records. However, the child was not named in those records. Is there any preferred way to fill in the name fields other than the LNAB in such a case?

(I saw the G2G on creating a profile for stillborn children...)

In this particular case, "Unknown" is not the recommended term for the first name.

* If an infant died before he or she could be named, use Unnamed Infant. Do not use Infant Boy, Baby Girl, etc. There is a gender field for this.

Rules for name fields can be found here.

Many thanks! I knew about Unknown, but it didn't seem to fit. Somehow, I missed the statement about Unnamed Infant.

My apologies.  I had not seen Unnamed Infant in any of my travels through the help pages.
Hey, I missed it too. And I know I've been to that page several times... Just goes to show that, when you're looking for something specific, you miss other details.

Unknown is the preferred choice for a first name that is not known, from what I have read on WikiTree help pages.  You can then explain with any further details in the biography such as 'Girl of', 'Infant", "Unnamed", etc

BTW, Anonymous is the preferred choice when citing privacy reasons.
