Hi Helmut,  I don't believe he lived in America.  I am uncertain if he served in the German Army before immigrating to Australia in 1950 I have searched immigration records in Australia and found he embarked from Bremerhaven to Australia on the ship Skaugum.  Arrived in Fremantle 20th Sept 1950 he was an electrician and sailed from Salzburg  on the 12th April 1950.  he was Roman Catholic. Date of birth 26/2/1929 supposedly born in Budapest.  thats all i have so far  :)

If he left from Salzburg he would have been in Austria prior to emigration. He may or may not have registered his departure there (Einwohnermeldeamt Salzburg).

Hungarian births are on familysearch but not for 1929 due to privacy restrictions (90 years for Hungary). One used to be able to get birth certificates for later dates through Hungarian consulates for $25.00 but that may be outdated information. It's worth a try to contact your nearest consulate and ask about it.
