How to complete merge to change LNAB? [closed]

+4 votes
Wilsen-2 was the original profile created for Estella Hope Wilsen formerly Giltrow. I am not the PM for this profile, but I could see the LNAB needed to be changed from Wilsen to Giltrow so I created a profile, Giltrow-49 and then initiated a merge of Wilsen-2 into Giltrow-49. When the PM performed the merge, a new profile Giltrow-50 was created but Giltrow-49 still exists. I initiated a merge of Giltrow-50 into Giltrow-49 but the PM states "any more merges simply cannot work..... Until Wikitree fixes these issues, any more requests will have to be postponed." Can someone help us sort this out as there are several other merges required in this family.

This looks like Giltrow-50 was created, hence no merge took place.  It appears you want to be the profile manager of an already existing profile (not saying this is the case but it only appears that way).  It might be best if this happens again to just leave a comment on the profile informing the profile manager of such an important change as last name at birth.
Another weirdness I see: Giltrow-50 was created in 2014; Giltrow-49 was just created this year. How is THAT possible? (a lower-numbered profile created AFTER a higher-numbered profile)
I suspect the 2014 date on Giltrow-50 is a carryover from Wilsen-2.

So you asked for an LNAB change, and got no response.

So you tried Plan B - create new profile and merge into it.  This is the same thing that the LNAB change form does, but it doesn't need the PM to do it.

Fine if it works, but if it gets blocked, then you've got two.

No I don't know how it's supposed to work.  We have many many thousands of profiles with LNABs that don't conform to the rules of WikiTree.  They could be fixed on sight, 10 seconds, instead of which they'll hang around for ever, because total control is given to the PM.  So most people just ignore them when they see them, because one way or another they could easily end up wasting an hour on a 10-second job and at no point would they be having fun.

I don't understand Sasha O'Sullivan's comment:

Any more merges simply cannot work, as this one for some reason merged (the other Wilsen-2) profile with one for another profile, so it is now Wilsen-50) Until Wiki Tree can fix these issues, any more requests will have to be postponed.

That makes no sense. There's absolutely nothing to be fixed. Another merge simply needs to be completed so there are no dupes.

I think what Sasha is saying is that she doesn't trust the merge process because it never goes as expected. A previous attempt to merge Giltrow-8 into Giltrow-5 has left the two now appearing as brothers so she is saying that merging just doesn't work.
