Use of contributor widgets on Websites and Facebook

Could some of you provide a few example uses of these.  I maintain a website, have a Facebook group and post into some Fadebook groups.

I cannot get it to work on my blog. I copy and paste (directly from the template) into a free text/HTML widget but it still doesn't work. Is there a trick to it?
