Two years late, and not even sure it's germane, but I was researching this same extended family and found this old note in my scratch-pad:  "William Lawrence, son of Merriman Lawrence of Boone County (WV), and his brother John Lawrence married sisters:  Nancy and Susanna Brooking, respectively.  A third sister Rhoda married Henry Miller of Old Monroe. William and Nancy had a son named Merriman Lawrence who had a son named William Lawrence (this seems very circular to me in hindsight! - I guess William Lawrence is the grandson of William Lawrence.) It appears that the name Merriman comes to us from the Lawrence side only, unless Ann (LNU) and Charles (Brooking) were cousins who married."  I also had a couple of records supporting the above.
