Do you have West ancestors with 4 name categories?

I have run into some brick walls on information with an unusual commonality between some of my West connections. First is [[West-8908|Robert Solomon Perry West]] and then his father [[John Wholley Franklin West |West-8913] ]. Have any of the West researchers found this 4 name listing in their West research?

I see the 4 name thing frequently.  What makes it even more difficult is that the middle initials change and the first name often turns out to be the middle name on another document.  My West, Hopkin and Gibson families all lean toward this frequently but not consistently. As a tradition, I think it is more common in Europe.

I had seen this in European listing but not often in the United States. I found one document that had listed R.S.P West as R.S.R. West because the person making the mark made small slashes instead of dots for the periods. The transcriber read it as an R but reviewing the next page I found how the person did a P and it also looked closer to an R but the transcriber caught it on the second.

Thanks

Charles
