I've been focusing on this particular family lately. I seem to have Gallop/Gollop on both sides of my line. I've been working on Mary Gollop - trying to prove her existence, I guess. Not finding a ton of information though.

The Gallup family goes at least as far back as 1469 when John Gallop came out of the north and married Alice Temple of Templeshire Broadwinsor heir to Strode Manor(about 300 acres), Bowood, Dorsetshire, England(see Gallup Genealogy book at Gallup Family Association website).

To the Great Migration immigrant John Gallop.  Though it has been shown he came from Bridport, Dorsetshire, England, his ancestry is unknown.

I can't say how far back the name goes, but the earliest Gallups in WikiTree have the LNAB of Gallop (same name, variable spelling)  and were born in Dorset, England, in the 1500s. See http://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Surname&s=GALLOP&order=dobup
