When a Gilman is not a Dudley

Sarah Gilman is clearly not the daughter of Samuel Dudley and his wife Mary Winthrop. She is most likely the daughter of Edward Gilman. This Sarah Gilman married John Leavitt and died in Hingham on 26 May 1700. Can we remove her from the Dudley family and put her where she belongs?

I have it that Sarah Gilman is the daughter of Edward Gilman and Mary Clark.

Edward GILMAN Gyllman   Last Updated May 6, 2003  Please see The Fourth Generation, 16. for the Edward Gilman who married Mary Clark, their family and voyage to America on the "Diligent."  See Edward Gilman's father, also named Edward, for information prior to the Fourth Generation.

Note information on the passengers of the Diligent are shown toward the end of this article.

Fourth Generation

16. Edward GILMAN, "The Emigrant" (Edward, Edward, Edward) was born about 1587 in , Hingham, Norfolk, England. He was christened on 20 Apr 1587 in Of, Hingham, Norfolk, England. He died on 22 Jun 1655 in , Exeter, Rockingham, New Hampshire. He was buried on 10 Apr 1681 in , Exeter, Rockingham, New Hampshire. ***

If the Edward Gilman who married Mary Clark is the first generation, I am the 12th generation. Mary Clark is an early ancestor of my maternal line, so in theory my mother and I would have the same mtDNA as Mary Clark.
